Prime Big Deal Days are Coming
This is the October 5, 2025 edition of the LazyPoints Weekly newsletter. It goes out by email every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Pacific–unless I oversleep–and is archived here on the blog. Want it straight to your inbox each week? Sign up here.
If you have an Amazon Prime membership, mark your calendars for this Tuesday and Wednesday, the 7th and 8th, for “Big Deal Days.” If you’ve been eyeing travel gear, this could be a good time to check prices, with big discounts on products like Anker chargers, Amazon devices, and Bose headphones.
Here are a few travel products I’ve actually paid for, used, and loved—worth checking out during the sale:
A Flight Flap to hold your phone or tablet (review)
Apple AirTags to keep track of your luggage
A Kindle Fire 8 to stream when plane Wi-Fi is spotty
The JISULIFE handheld fan for humid days or warm nights (review)
An Anker portable charger to keep everything powered
Travel-sized hand sanitizer just in case
A luggage scale to avoid overweight baggage fees
A reliable backpack to carry it all (my wife and I both use this one from Matein)
Affiliate links above; as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Please don’t get anything you don’t need. Read more about my experiences with most of these products here.
This week on the blog 📝
On Wednesday I rolled out a new “Heat Scale” to rate how good I think each credit card welcome offer really is—so you can spot great deals at a glance.
Quick Points of the Week ⚡
Major news 🚨
No more AA Aviator applications. I’ve been warning about it for a while, but it finally happened. Barclays is no longer taking applications for the AA Aviator, so no more double-dipping on welcome bonuses from both them and Citi on co-branded American Airlines cards. (TPG)
The Hawaiian Airlines card is alive and well… for now. One door closes, another remains open. Following the Alaska-Hawaiian merger, you can still apply for a Bank of America Atmos card and a Barclays Hawaiian card and earn a bonus on both. But this opportunity may not last forever. (FrequentMiler)
Special offers ✨
Earn 1500 Hilton points per stay. This isn’t a great offer, but it’s free points if you were planning a stay anyway. Friendly reminder—check for offers like this before booking your next hotel stay to ensure you get maximum rewards. (Sign up here)
More value 📈
Have a Bank of America card? Mark your calendars. If you have a BoA card (like the Atmos Summit), you can earn an extra 2x points/miles or 2% cash back on November 6 on up to $2,500 in purchases. This is a great opportunity to earn extra points on a major purchase if you have one coming up—it might help hit a sign-up bonus, too. (AwardWallet)
The fourth quarter has arrived. Time to activate your offers if you have a rotating-category card like the Discover It or Chase Freedom Flex. Other cards also have quarterly benefits like the Amex Platinum (Resy and Lululemon statement credits) or Hilton Aspire (flight credit) that have now reset for the fourth quarter.
Good news and bad news 📈📉
The Atmos North American award chart is changing. Lots of shorter flights are getting cheaper, but redemption rates are spiking for flights over 3,500 miles. That will especially hurt those flying between the East Coast and Alaska or Hawaii. (AwardWallet)
Sign-up bonuses of the Week 🎯
There are a few cards with elevated bonus offers this week:
Amex Hilton cards. Amex and Hilton are offering a bonus of 100k Hilton points on the Honors card, 155k points on the Surpass, and 175k points on the Aspire. Note that Hilton points are worth far less than bank and airline points, coming in at maybe half a cent each, depending on how you redeem them. Even so, these offers are worth roughly $500-900 in hotel stays.
The offers on the Honors and Surpass are essentially the second-best offer you will see on those cards, but the best offer—points plus Hilton’s incredible free night—usually comes around about once a year and is worth waiting for. The Aspire, though, is an amazing card, albeit pricey, and this 175k offer is so close to the best-ever 180k that I wouldn’t recommend holding out if you want to add an Aspire to your wallet. But it also comes around quite frequently, so I wouldn’t rush, either. Heat scale: 🔥🔥 (Aspire only)
Expedia OneKey cards. These Wells Fargo-issued cards have elevated offers of $600 in OneKeyCash (essential credits toward Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo bookings) for the $99-fee OneKey+ and $400 in OneKeyCash on the no-fee One Key Mastercard. The former comes with a $100 OneKeyCash bonus on each renewal, so both cards are potential keepers. Both cards also earn 3% in OneKeyCash on Expedia purchases.
These cards aren’t my favorites, as I usually book directly when I’m not paying with cash, so I rarely book via an online travel agency like Expedia. But the cards are definitely Lazy gems. The $600 bonus on the OneKey+ should be enough to get you to Europe, and without having to worry (too much) about how to convert points into travel. If you want to keep it simple, these aren’t the worst options out there. Heat scale: 🔥.
Capital One Venture Rewards. FrequentMiler reports it may be possible to get not only the standard 75k-mile welcome offer on the Venture Rewards, but also $300 in travel portal credits when getting pre-approved through a referral link. (I have a Venture X referral link, but I’m not sure if that will work.) The Venture X is one of the best cards out there, while I don’t see a ton of value in the Venture Rewards, which offers nothing to meaningfully offset its $95 annual fee. But taking the extra $300 and applying for an upgrade later might be a solid play. Heat scale: 🔥 if you can snag the extra $300.
Other great current bonuses
100k + 25k companion certificate on the Alaska Atmos Summit (our take: 🔥🔥🔥🔥)
125k on the Chase Sapphire Reserve (our take: 🔥🔥🔥)
100k on the Citi Strata Elite (in-branch) (our take: 🔥🔥🔥)
165k on the IHG Premier (our take: 🔥🔥)
80-125k on Delta credit cards (our take: 🔥🔥)
50k on the Mesa Homeowner’s Card (our take: 🔥🔥)
75k miles on the Chase Sapphire Preferred (our hot take: 🔥)
80k on the Atmos Ascent (our take: 🔥)
100k Avios on Chase cards (our take: 🔥)
$300 (kind of) on Capital One no-fee cards (our take)
Enjoy the weekend! 🦥
Hope you snag some big deals!
