How to Use Bilt Cash at Walgreens
I’ve written before about how to make the most of Bilt Cash, but I haven’t discussed one of Bilt’s better small-dollar redemption options: Walgreens gift cards. Each month, you can spend $10 in Bilt Cash to get a $10 Walgreens gift card. That’s a small amount, but it can be dollar-for-dollar value, making it one of the most efficient uses of Bilt Cash.
I initially shied away from the Walgreens redemption because I worried it would be difficult to use—or expire before I got around to using it. But I’ve been surprised at just how easy it is to take advantage of this option.
How to redeem Bilt Cash for a Walgreens gift card
To use your Bilt Cash for a Walgreens gift card, simply go to the “Rewards” section of the Bilt app or website (it’s an airplane icon ✈️), choose “credits” at the top, scroll down until you see the “$10 Walgreens Credit” option, and choose “redeem.”
How to use the Walgreens gift card
Some reports online indicate that you might need a myWalgreens account to use the gift card. An account is free and offers rewards on purchases. I always enter my phone number to use my account when shopping, and I had no issues using my gift card in-store.
To pull up your gift card, ask the Bilt in-app concierge to take you to “gift cards,” or navigate directly by going to the Rewards (✈️) section, choosing “points” at the top, scrolling down to “Gift Cards,” choosing the Walgreens gift card and clicking “reveal,” then choosing “show barcode.” The cashier can simply scan the barcode and apply the balance to your purchase. I didn’t want to navigate all that in the store, so I simply took a screenshot of the barcode and it worked just fine.
Note that the Bilt Cash terms state that the gift card is valid for 30 days. However, reports online suggest that you can add the gift card to your Walgreens account online and it will function like normal Walgreens gift cards, which don’t expire. I haven’t personally verified this yet, though.
To do this, log into myWalgreens, go to “Your Account,” then “Account Settings,” choose “Payment Methods,” and then “Add new gift card.” Use the gift card number and access pin from the Bilt app to add the card to your Walgreens account.
Lazy Take 🦥
Although the redemption can seem a little clunky, once I actually went through the steps I found it to be pretty easy to either use in-store or save to my Walgreens account for later. With roughly 8,000 stores in the U.S., there’s likely to be a Walgreens near you. As long as you aren't paying a meaningful price premium by shopping there instead of your usual grocery store or pharmacy, the Walgreens gift card can deliver close to dollar-for-dollar value—making it one of the better ways to use Bilt Cash.
